Community Commitment

School Support

Lane-Scott Electric takes an active role in supporting our youth. We have supported the Dighton Electrathon team since it's inception at Dighton High School in the early 2000's and more recently sponsored the Dighton Kid Wind Challenge team.

The Kansas Electrathon Program is a state wide program that introduces kids to electric and solar powered vehicles and engineering. Kansas teams design, build and race electric vehicles and compete against other teams across the state at meets. Most teams build their cars from the ground up with only a few rules and guidelines. Competition is based on time and distance with the race being won by the team that completes the most laps in one hour. Strategy is as important as speed!

The KidWind Challenge is an annual event that allows students to explore the power of wind by building and testing their own wind turbines then competing against other teams in their age division. The top two winners in each age division at the regional challenges compete at the statewide event. Dighton began competing in the challenge in 2019 with a team of 7th grade students, then again in 2020 with three teams. Two of the three teams qualified at their regional competition to compete at the State Competition. Lane-Scott donated funds to help purchase materials for the Dighton teams to build a wind tunnel that creates an environment to test their wind turbines.

Lane-Scott Electric would be proud to support all schools in our service territory who wish to venture into these or other programs that encourage education of electricity or energy creation.

Food Drive

Lane-Scott began hosting a food drive in 2019, with a Stock the Pantry for Summer Event to support the food banks in Dighton and Ransom. Part of the drive was a traditional food drive for the communities to donate items to the food banks, the other part involved the Dighton and Western Plains elementary schools. The schools were invited to participate in a food drive classroom challenge. The class in each school who collected the most items for their city's food bank won a pizza party and a $100 donation to the winning classroom to use towards school supplies.

In 2020, the food drive was a community only initiative due to the schools being closed due to COVID-19 concerns. Rather than having a classroom challenge, Lane-Scott donated $300 to both the Ransom and Dighton food banks.
