2022 Annual Meeting

The 72nd Annual Meeting of Lane-Scott Electric was held on July 19, 2022, at the Lane Co. Fairgrounds in Dighton, KS. Despite the scorching hot temperatures, approximately 400 Lane-Scott Electric members and guests gathered for a complimentary BBQ dinner by John Ross & Co. Signature Catering of Garden City, KS, and free fair rides for the kids.

The business portion of the Annual Meeting included approval of the Minutes from the 2021 Annual meeting and Treasurer’s Report. Recognition of employees and trustees, with special recognition to Carrie Borell, Kevin Bradstreet, and Myron Seib who received their 15-year awards.

General Manager, Richard McLeon announced the six 2022 Continuing Education Scholarship recipients, Emma Borell, Dylan Bruntz, Taylor Cable, Amy Foos, Jena Ratliff, and Alexa Reinhardt. Mr. McLeon presented his Manager’s Report which included the financial situation of Lane-Scott Electric, a recap of the year, events of 2021 including the December 15 windstorm, and the current position for 2022.

This year we had two special presentations. Lee Tafanelli, the CEO of Kansas Electric Cooperatives (KEC). Mr. Tafanelli gave an update on the affairs at KEC, and the relationship and services provided to rural electric cooperatives. The Dighton Kid Wind “WindChill” Team, consisting of sixth and seventh grade students Cordell Davis, Weston Johnson, and Rangler Price spoke about the changes made to their wind turbine this year, and their experience competing at the National Challenge.

Voting for the election of three board of trustee positions by floor vote resulted with Eric Doll representing Finney and Hodgman counties; Rad Roehl, representing Lane and Gove counties, and Chad Griffith; representing Scott and Logan counties.

Raffle prizes were handed out during the meeting, and everyone received a Lane-Scott Electric tumbler as a gift from Lane-Scott.

The Lane-Scott Electric Coop Annual Meeting is held each year at the Lane County Fairgrounds the Tuesday before the fair.  This year the meeting was on July 19th, 2022. The meeting is held to elect trustees who's term limits have expired, inform members of activity from the past year, provide the financial status, and address any other business.  Those who attend enjoy a complimentary catered meal, prizes, and fair rides!

Purchasing electricity from Lane-Scott Electric gives you membership in the cooperative. As a member, you have voting rights. This democratic right, which includes one vote by every cooperative member - is one of several important differences between electric cooperatives and investor-owned electric utilities. Your vote is important to elect trustees who value your way of life and will represent you as a member of an electric cooperative. Members of the board are responsible for directing business and affairs of the cooperative.
